Common Lower Limb Conditions We Treat
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, affecting the thick band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes. You'll typically feel a sharp, stabbing pain in your heel, especially with your first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.
Bunions

A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the base of your big toe, causing the toe to angle toward the second toe. This progressive deformity can cause significant pain and make finding comfortable footwear challenging.
Heel Spurs
Heel spurs are bony growths that develop on the underside of your heel bone, often occurring alongside plantar fasciitis. While the spur itself might not cause pain, the surrounding tissue inflammation certainly can.
Flat Feet
Flat feet is when your foot's natural arch collapses or never properly develops, it can lead to significant pain and affect your entire lower limb alignment. This condition can cause everything from foot fatigue to knee and hip problems.
Forefoot Pain (Metatarsalgia)

Pain in the ball of your foot, often described as feeling like you're walking on pebbles, can significantly impact your daily activities. This condition frequently develops from improper weight distribution across the forefoot.
Morton's Neuroma

This painful condition involves thickening of tissue around nerves leading to your toes, typically between the third and fourth toes. You might experience burning pain, numbness, or the feeling that you're standing on a fold in your sock.
Ankle Instability

Chronic ankle instability often develops after repeated ankle sprains, leaving you feeling like your ankle might "give way" during activities. This condition affects not just your ankle, but can alter your entire movement pattern.
Achilles Tendinopathy
Pain and stiffness in your Achilles tendon can severely limit your activity levels. Whether it's insertional tendinopathy (at the heel attachment) or mid-portion tendinopathy, proper treatment is crucial to prevent chronic issues.
Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction
Often called "adult acquired flat foot," PTTD involves the tendon that helps maintain your arch. Early intervention is key to preventing severe deformity and the need for surgical intervention.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome

The ITB runs from your hip to your knee, and when it becomes tight or inflamed, it can cause significant lateral knee pain. Poor foot mechanics often contribute to this overuse injury.
Osteoarthritis of the Knee

While we can't cure arthritis, proper biomechanics can significantly reduce the load on arthritic joints, potentially slowing progression and reducing pain.
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Often experienced as pain around or behind the kneecap, this condition frequently stems from poor foot mechanics that affect the entire leg alignment. It's particularly common in runners and active individuals.
Stress Fractures

These overuse injuries occur when repetitive stress overwhelms your bone's ability to repair itself. Common locations include the metatarsals, tibia, and fibula.

Pain along the shinbone is often related to poor foot mechanics that create excessive stress on the muscles and bones of the lower leg.
Runner's Knee and Jogger's Foot

These common running injuries often stem from biomechanical issues that can be corrected with proper orthotic intervention and movement retraining.
Growing Pains and Development Issues

Children's feet are constantly developing, and early intervention can prevent many adult problems. We treat conditions like in-toeing, out-toeing, and developmental flat feet.
Sever's Disease (Calcaneal Apophysitis)

This common cause of heel pain in growing children responds well to proper orthotic management and activity modification.
Diabetic Foot Complications

Diabetes can significantly affect foot health through reduced sensation and circulation. Our preventative approach helps avoid serious complications.
Hammer Toe

Hammer toe is a deformity where one or more of your smaller toes bend abnormally at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. This condition often develops due to muscle imbalances and can cause pain when walking or wearing shoes.
Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of your toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, swelling, and potentially infection. This common condition most frequently affects the big toe.
Corns and Calluses
Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin that develop in response to repeated pressure or friction. While calluses typically form on weight-bearing areas, corns often develop on toes and can be quite painful.
Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear as small, rough growths on the soles of your feet. They can be painful when walking and may have small black dots in the centre.
Nail Fungus (Onychomycosis)

Fungal nail infections cause nails to become thick, discoulored, and brittle. This persistent condition requires professional treatment and can affect both fingernails and toenails, though toenails are more commonly affected.
Sesamoiditis

Sesamoiditis involves inflammation of the sesamoid bones located beneath the big toe joint. These small bones can become irritated from activities that involve pushing off the ball of the foot, such as running or dancing.
Unmanageable Toenails

Some patients develop toenails that become difficult to trim due to thickness, curvature, or other deformities.
Arthritis Management

Arthritis can affect multiple joints in the foot and ankle, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. The most common types affecting the feet are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis.
Oedema (Swelling)
Oedema refers to swelling caused by fluid retention, commonly affecting the feet, ankles, and lower legs. This condition can result from various causes including poor circulation, heart conditions, pregnancy, or prolonged standing, and requires proper assessment to determine the underlying cause.
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

Similar to carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist, tarsal tunnel syndrome occurs when the posterior tibial nerve becomes compressed as it passes through the tarsal tunnel near your ankle, causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the foot.
